About Noshi Floral Design

Amy Yu, a San Francisco native and manga (Japanese comic book) editor by day, is the creator behind Noshi Floral Design. Making floral bouquets and arrangements allows her to share the natural beauty of flowers with others, particularly through events like weddings and birthdays.

The Story Behind the Noshi

In olden days, noshi (thin strips of abalone that represent longevity) were bundled together and attached to gifts as a symbol of good wishes in Japan. Today, noshi (now primarily thin strips of paper) are still attached to gifts for weddings and other congratulatory events. Amy likes to think of her floral arrangements as symbols of good fortune for the recipient, very much like a noshi.
